Even the protection of the historical is in style. The Emmeline and Christabel Pankhurst Memorial  is a memo...

Even the protection of the historical
is in style.

The Emmeline and Christabel Pankhurst Memorial
is a memorial to Emmeline Pankhurst and her daughter Christabel,
two of the foremost British suffragettes.
It's at the entrance to Victoria Tower Gardens.
It's made by Arthur George Walker, unveiled in 1930.
In 1958 the statue was relocated to its current site.

It was special to sit there
a bit aside from the shouting for or against Brexit.
It created a feeling
that people should make better choices
what to fight for.

And then the rain started,
sweeping clean the pavements of protesters.
It was funny to see
how fast they disappeared,
those good weather shouters!

Sir John Betjeman
made by sculptor Martin Jennings.

Unveiled 12 November 2007
by Lycett Green, Betjeman's daughter,
and the poet laureate, Andrew Motion.

The statue is standing on a disc of Cumbrian slate
inscribed with Betjeman's name and dates
and words from the poem Cornish Cliffs:
(Inner circle:)
JOHN BETJEMAN 1906-1984 POET
Who saved this glorious station

(Outer circle):
And the shadowless unclouded glare
Deep blue above us fades to whiteness where
A misty sea-line meets the wash of air

Surrounding the statue and base
is a series of satellite discs
of various sizes set into the floor
with quotations from Betjeman's poetry.

The Meeting Place is a 9-metre-high (30 ft),
20-tonne (20-long-ton) bronze sculpture
at St Pancras railway station.
Designed by the British artist Paul Day and unveiled in 2007.

It represents the meeting of a chic French woman
reunited with her English lover
and aims to symbolise the meeting of two cultures
and the romance of travel.
The sculptor added a frieze to the plinth in 2008
and says this is a deliberate contrast
to the "ideal" of the towering lovers embracing above.
"It is about daily life --
about the hopes and fears,
the loves, the joys,
the loss and tragedy
that are bubbling along together in human life".
