On English soil again!
Back!!
Made it after 50 years!!
Oh, back again!!

Do you see the doors?
They are the end of the wartunnels.

.

.

England,
country of chimneys,
some houses have more chimneys
than dinnerplates.

.

We immediately went for fish and chips,
and mushy peas.
I love them in England,
but not here.

And the rest had an icecream.
I mean,
an ICECREAM!!!!!

It's a painting on the wall,
but so real, that I had to check it
several times.

.

So we decided to go to Dover Castle,
far too expensive for the short time left.

But we were welcomed
with a spread of sunlight.
Feels like dad is with us.

This is the statue of Admiral Bertram Ramsay.

With the experience of WW1,
the army had an experienced commander,
and made him
admiral of the British Navy.

He led the evacuation of Dunkirk
and he led the navy during
the preparation of  D-Day.
He died early January 2 1945
in a plane crash in France.

We decided to take part in a tunnel trip.
The guide was bossy.
Man, do you really think,
I will damage something
my father and his colleagues (might) have used?

I didn't like the artificial feeling he created,
by hurrying us up.
Maybe his wife was waiting at home?

.

.

Then we decided to visit the
hospital tunnels.
Waited quite some time,
but only the guides were there.

We had the choice:
artificial or a tour with the guide alone?
So we decided to go with Caroline,
without the sounds and projected images.
Just we, the tunnels, and the items.

Best choice!!!
We had a good conversation,
could really feel how it must have been.
The atmosphere was loaded!!
One could imagine,
the nurses and the men brought in.

Thank you Caroline!!
You have given us
the best experience ever!!!

.

The guy closed it right in front of us,
a peek through the door was not allowed
anymore.

Evening rain
at the castle.

And here Lars gave me,
the RAF brooch.
Thank you!

We roamed the grounds of the castle
after they closed the buildings.

On our way back,
what a pity.
Hope to be back soon!

Food!
Glorious food!

The room,
a former garage,
was in the process
of renovation.

So the door closed,
but not against the wind,
the shower wasn't there.
We had water,
but only cold.

And the mirror was
standing on the floor.
Great to see your feet,
but a real pain
when needing to comb your hair.

But the beds were very clean.

It was so cold,
and when it started to rain
we were afraid
a river would run inside
and takes us up for transport
to another part of the area.

At 5 in the morning,
we were fed up
of expecting wet feet,
or being blown away,
so we decided to leave.
Payment was made...so no problem there,
and we were told where to leave the key.

Armistice Day....
driving through the night
to London!!
